Hardy Asprilla

Hardy Asprilla joined the CBU men's basketball staff in 2013 and was promoted to the Assistant Head Men's Basketball Coach in the fall of 2017. Asprilla was given the Associate head men's basketball position in 2019. 

In the 2024-2025 season, Coach Asprilla and the Lancers finished 17-15 and made the WAC tournament for the fifth consecutive season where they defeated #6 Tarleton State to reach the semifinals for the first time in program history. The Lancers defeated Grand Canyon at home and finished the season with double digit home wins for the sixth time in the DI era.

In the 2023-24 season, Coach Asprilla and the Lancers finished 16-17 and made the WAC Tournament for the third consecutive season where they defeated #5 Utah Valley in the opening round before falling to Seattle U in the Quarterfinals. 

In 2023, the Lancers to a 17-16 finish on the 2022-23 season, recording the fifth-straight winning season since making the jump into the NCAA Division I ranks. The Lancers also won their second WAC tournament game with a win over Abilene Christian 69-62 in the first round. 

In 2022, CBU posted an 18-16 record and won their first-ever WAC tournament game with an 81-80 win over UTRGV and was invited to the College Basketball Inivtational in Dayton Beach, Florida.

A former member of the Colombian National Team and Cal State Fullerton standout, Asprilla spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, helping interim Head Coach Andy Newman.

Prior to that, Asprilla spent two seasons as the lead assistant at Humboldt State, helping the Jacks to a school-record 26-4 record and a California Collegiate Athletic Association title in 2010-11 and a 22-8 mark in 2011-12, reaching the NCAA Division II West Region Championships both seasons. The Jacks also won a CCAA Tournament title as well.

No stranger to Croy, Asprilla spent two seasons as his assistant at Citrus College. In his two seasons there, Citrus went 57-8, won a pair of league titles and advanced to the state semifinals in 2010 with a 29-3 record.

Asprilla’s coaching career began in 2005-06 when he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Cal State Fullerton under Head Coach Bob Burton.

A transfer from the College of the Sequoias, Asprilla played two seasons for the Titans from 2003-05, averaging 8.5 points and 8.8 rebounds as a senior before suffering a career-ending knee injury in the 12th game of the year against Long Beach State. He led or co-led the team in rebounding in eight of those 12 contests, including a season-high 16 rebounds against UC Riverside.

Following his collegiate playing career, Asprilla spent time with the Colombian National Team, competing in numerous tournaments throughout South America, as well as playing professionally with the Bucaros in his hometown of Bucaramanga. He was named the finals MVP in leading Bucaros to a national championship.

Asprilla graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor’s in kinesiology in 2005 and later earned his master’s in kinesiology in 2009. He and his wife, Shannon, have a daughter and a son.
