CBU BASEBALL DROPS FIRST OF FOUR MEETINGS VERSUS #3 LEWIS AND CLARK IN LEWISTON, ID, 11-4

Lewiston, Idaho (Monday, March 21, 2005) – Number 3-ranked Lewis and Clark State College used a pair of three-run innings to beat the California Baptist University baseball team by a score of 11-4 in a non-conference meeting in Lewiston, ID Monday night.
CBU (8-12-1) had dropped two home contests to Lewis and Clark (16-4) in Riverside last week. The Lancers are 3-3 all-time versus the Warriors. The two teams play each other Tuesday through Thursday this week (March 22-24) in Lewiston, with each game starting at 6 p.m. pacific time.
Junior CF Mike Swain (San Clemente, CA/San Clemente HS/Irvine Valley CC) had two hits, including a home run to lead CBU. Freshman 2B Steve Goins (Riverside, CA/Arlington HS) had two hits, including a double, and knocked in a run. Sophomore RF Aaron Seuss (Palm Desert, CA/Palm Desert HS/UC Riverside) had a hit, an RBI, and scored a run from the leadoff spot for CBU.
Senior LHP Matt Theissen (Yucaipa, CA/Arlington HS/UC Riverside) was hit with the loss after allowing eight runs (six earned) on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Theissen (2-2) walked five and struck out three.
Ben Newton (1-0) picked up the win out of the bullpen for Lewis and Clark. Newton tossed three shutout innings of relief while allowing two hits, walking none, and striking out four.
The Lancers will again play Lewis and Clark State in a non-conference game tomorrow (March 22) at 6 p.m. in Lewiston, ID.
