Lancers Secure First Dub of the Weekend Over the Aces

RIVERSIDE--- The bats were hot on Friday night as California Baptist baseball welcomed the University of Evansville to Totman Stadium for the first game of a three-set series. CBU secured the 11-6 win with eight hits and staved off multiple attempts by the Purple Aces to come back. The Lancers improve to 18-5 on the season and will go for their sixth series win tomorrow evening.

Despite dropping an early lead, the Lancers settled in and slowly began racking up their hits, beginning with a two-RBI home run by Ben Castelli. The Aces punched right back in the top of the second with two runs of their own to trade the lead again, but a Carter Eberhard homer would bring home two runs before Ryder Dykstra knocked an RBI single for a 4-3 lead. From there, the Lancers slowly began building on their runs as the bottom of the sixth drove in three runs courtesy of CBU capitalizing on the Aces' errors.

For the first time this season, Michael Malki struggled on the mound, and Gary Adcock looked to his relievers for help, creating a bullpen game on Friday night. Cameron Teper was solid through 4.1 innings and delivered six strikeouts while allowing just one run before Luis Becerra, Sam Burgess, and Zachary Yates did their job to finish out the win. The victory over Evansville comes as Teper's fourth pitching win and Yates' second save for the Lancers.

The Lancers will be back at Totman Stadium tomorrow evening for the second installment of the weekend series at 5 p.m.
