CBU Drops Final Game of Series to Harvard

RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist baseball program dropped the fourth game of the series on Monday night to Harvard University in a 14- 12 thriller. Despite taking an early lead, Harvard put up a six-run third inning, and the Lancers were unable to complete a slow but steady comeback. The loss sets California Baptist back to a 17-5 record, despite winning the series 3-1 over the Crimson.

CBU got to work right away and immediately took a three-run lead thanks to small ball, looking like they picked up right where they left off yesterday. However, Harvard was determined to get its first win of the season, and a massive six-run third inning that included two doubles and two errors gave them a lead that would never be relinquished. California Baptist slowly chipped away at the deficit, but a pair of home runs by the visitors helped push their lead, stopping CBU from making a complete comeback.

Things looked to be on the right track in the bottom of the ninth after Carter Eberhard knocked a two-run homer before the winning run at the plate would ultimately fly out to right field. The nearly 4-hour game saw Samuel Lopez continue to dominate in the designated hitter position for CBU, earning himself three hits across four at-bats with two RBI.

CBU's pitching staff sat down 16 batters, as Ryne Palmer led the way with seven strikeouts of his own. In total, Gary Adcock's pitching staff struck out 60 batters this weekend across the four-game series.

With no midweek game on the books, the Lancers will now turn their attention to a three-game series this weekend versus Evansville University.
