
LOOY NETS 5 IN BANANA SPLIT

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. --- Banana splits anyone?
Five goals by the nation's leading scorer, Ryan Steiger, boosted the No. 19-ranked Lancers to a 14-10 win over UC Santa Cruz, but California Baptist dropped the afternoon game, 10-9, to No. 20 Santa Clara.
The Lancers move to 14-6 on the season with the pair of contests as Jon Miller nabbed 13 saves on the day.
Mike Looy continued his solid weekend with 4 goals and 5 assists in the pair of games, while Aaron Abellano forced 5 turnovers, snagged 7 steals and netted a pair of goals for California Baptist.
Steiger found the net 5 times in the opening win over UC Santa Cruz. The country's top scorer also forced 3 steals in the victory, as Looy posted a trio of goals and Josh Harris and Abellano each scored twice. Jason Bills and Charlie Weaver also scored a goal apiece for the Lancers, who out-shot the Banana Slugs 25-10, including 7-1 in the second quarter.
Santa Clara turned the tables on the Lancers in the afternoon match, however, staving off a 4-goal CBU output in the fourth quarter with 4 scores of its own in the closing period.
Miller hoised 9 saves in a 23-shot barrage as Harris netted 4 goals to lead CBU. Steiger also scored a pair of goals while Weaver, Looy and Chris Morgan each found the net once in the loss.
