RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? Just three days removed from a thrilling 10-7 win at Concordia, California Baptist survived another scare from the Eagles to grab a 10-9 overtime victory in the final day of the Lancer Invitational. CBU also closed the day out with a 17-10 win over Chaffey.
Jason Bills fired a backhanded goal inside 2-meters to give the Lancers (12-6) their 10th straight win and second in a row against Concordia. CBU trailed 9-7 with about three minutes left when Chris Morgan brought the Lancers within one at 9-8. Then with five seconds left Morgan again ripped a shot into the back of the net to convert on a 6-on-5 tying the game at 9-9.
Morgan scored three goals including his first in the third quarter. Jon Miller recorded six saves on the night.
The Eagles got seven goals by Jure Belamarich that were all scored in consecutive order. Kevin Rice and Mike Cobarrubias scored the two bookend goals for Concordia.
Against Chaffey, CBU got five goals each from Alan Ogden and Josh Harris. Ogden scored three goals in the first quarter and one each in the second and third while Harris scored two in the first and three in the second quarter.
The Lancers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Claremont, Calif., to take on Claremont Mudd at 7 p.m.
