“I think we are trying to redefine our identity in the second half of the season,” said CBU head coach Ryan McGuyre. “I really liked seeing Bree being aggressive on her jump serves. That really opened things up for us there. Tonight was solid and we got the win. It's hard to gage where we are right now on a game like this.”
The Lancers jumped out to a 7-1 lead early in the opening set thanks to a pair of aces from Bell in the run. CBU led 13-9 before the Royals stormed back with a 6-0 run to take a 15-13 lead. Hope didn't lose until the Lancers used a 6-0 run to take a 24-19 lead to grab set point. The Royals score the next two points, but Shi put it away with her third kill of the set.
CBU had no problems in the second set hitting .357 (13-3-28) and went 11-for-14 in sideout attempts. The Lancers didn't allow Hope to score more than one point at a time in the middle set. The Royals held a brief one-point lead early in the third set, but the Lancers went on an 8-1 run to take a 12-6 lead and cruised from there.
California Baptist will now hit the road against as it travels to Azusa Pacific, Oct. 30, and to Westmont, Nov. 1.
