SALT LAKE CITY, Utah ? Nicole Davis tied a single-game school record draining eight 3-pointers in a 101-90 loss to No. 15 Westminster (Utah). The senior went 8-for-12 from beyond the arc tying three other Lancers for the most treys in a single-game.
The 13th-ranked Lancers (1-2) shot almost 50 percent from beyond the arc going 10-for-21, but turned the ball over 24 times in the loss to the Griffins.
Davis scored a season-high 37 points tying her for the eighth most in a single-game in school history. She scored 25 of those points in the second half, nailing seven of her eight threes. She went 8-of-10 from the field and 7-of-9 from beyond the arc in the second half alone. She hit four of those threes in the last two minutes of the game.
Brenna Hahn also scored 14 points going 5-of-9 from the field and 4-for-4 at the charity stripe. Bryana Williams notched her second double-double of the year, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 boards. Jeanine Deno also scored in double-figures as she was perfect from the field going 4-for-4 with a pair of 3-pointers.
Elisa Leader led the way for the Griffins scoring a team-high 26 points while Keshia Catten added 20.
The Lancers led just once in the game at 5-4 before the Griffins drained three straight treys to take a 13-5 lead. Westminster pushed the lead out to 30-16 before CBU got within 10 at 31-21 on a Davis three. That was as close as CBU came in the first half as the Griffins used a 10-2 run to take a 41-23 lead with 5:59 left in the half. Westminster took its biggest lead of the half at 52-32, but CBU got a bucket from Alyson Haley and a pair of free throws from Elisha Taylor to make it 52-36 at the end of the half.
The Griffins took their biggest lead of the game with 11:50 left to play at 69-48, but CBU began to chip away at the lead late. Trailing 91-74, California Baptist used a 16-8 run to close the gap to 99-90 with 17 seconds left, but that was as close as the Lancers came.
The Lancers shot a higher percentage from the field and out rebounded the Griffins (37-33), but forced just 11 turnovers and gave up 26 points off their own turnovers.
CBU will look to break the two-game skid as they take on Montana Western, Saturday, at 2 p.m. (MST). The game can be heard by tape delay at 6:30 p.m. (PST) on KPRO 1570 AM.
