HONOLULU, Hawaii ? Forget getting caught up in the scenery and soaking up the sun. California Baptist took care of business on the opening day of the Hawaii Invitational. The Lancers (6-0) won their fifth and sixth straight 3-0 match with victories over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) (25-12, 25-17, 27-25) and NCAA Division II Chaminade (26-24, 25-11, 25-17).
In the opener California Baptist got double-figure kills from Fei Shi and 10 aces from Katrina Clark. CBU hit .300 (32-14-60) and served up 22 aces.
In the nightcap, Colleen Sweeney near unstoppable hitting .500 with a career-high 16 kills. Shi chipped in 13 kills while hitting a .367 clip. Mical Bell dished out a team-high 17 assists while Krista Hasemeyer was just behind with 14. Bell also served four aces that Clark mirrored with four of her own.
Clark just missed a double-double with eight assists to go with her 10 digs. Noelle Dyk was a pair of digs and a pair of kills away from a double-double with eight each.
The Lancers as a team hit .330 (43-13-91) and were just one ace away from tying a season-high with 12. CBU's defense held the Swords to just a .179 clip (28-14-78).
The Lancers close out the invitational with a pair of former NAIA powers BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific. CBU takes on the Seasiders at 4 p.m. (PDT) and the Sea Warriors at 10 p.m. (PDT).
