RIVERSIDE, Calif. ? California Baptist scored 29 goals in the final two games of the Lancer Invite with a 14-1 win over La Verne and a 15-4 victory over Cal Maritime.
The Lancers (15-5) were led by Chris Morgan who scored four goals on the day including a hat trick in the first quarter against Cal Maritime. Aaron Steiger and Alex Shorts also scored three goals on the day.
Zach Bowman and Dylan Cox combined for 14 saves with Cox posting eight total saves.
You couldn't have asked for a better start against La Verne, as the Lancers scored the first 12 goals of the game. CBU lead 3-0 after the first, 9-0 at halftime and 12-0 heading into the fourth. The Leopards opened the fourth with their only goal of the game before CBU added two more in the final quarter.
Nick Rocca, Steiger and Chris Toy all netted a pair of goals in the win while Morgan, Shorts, Chris Gwinn, Alan Ogden, Jeremy Atkinson, Nick Schofield, Chad Fraser and Josh Atkinson all scored solo goals.
The Lancers scored the first six goals of the game against the Keelhaulers before Maritime got on the board with just a second left in the first quarter. The Lancers outscored CMA 5-2 in the second quarter to take an 11-3 lead and led 12-4 at the end of the third. CBU netted three more goals in the fourth to cap the match.
Morgan recorded his first goal of the game, at 5:26 in the first, after Steiger opened it with his only goal. Morgan then scored two more goals in just over two minutes after scoring his first.
Kellan Frericks, Brett Landfield and Shorts all scored a pair of goals while Gwinn, Jeremy Atkinson, Schofield, Brent Troutman and Peter Hines all found the back of the net once.
The Lancers now head to Claremont, Calif., tomorrow to take on the nation's fifth-ranked team, Long Beach State, at 10 a.m. before taking on Pomona-Pitzer at 2 p.m.
