IN THE POINT COLUMN

COSTA MESA, Calif. --- California Baptist University and Vanguard played 110 minutes of scoreless soccer Tuesday, playing to a 0-0 tie.
In the process, CBU put an end to one streak, but extended another as the tie snaps the Lancers' four-game losing skid but extends their goal scoring drought to five straight games.
Even still, Head Coach Ryan Jorden will take it as the Lancers do pick up their first point in conference play, moving to 1-4-4 overall, 0-3-1 (1 point) in GSAC play. The Lions are now 5-4-2, 2-1-1 (7 points).
“We didn't score, but we didn't lose,” said Jorden. “I told the guys afterwards that point on the road will be important. It's good to get in the point column, especially on the road.”
Vanguard out-shot the Lancers, 20-6, but only four of those shots were on frame, meaning 16 of them weren't. Jeff Redinger collected four saves for his first shutout of the season.
CBU was also whistled for 27 fouls, including 20 after halftime. Meanwhile, Vanguard was only called for 13, six of which came after the intermission.
The Lancers, the fifth-best defensive unit in the GSAC boasting a solid 1.04 goals against average, continued to impress on the defensive end. Only once in nine games this year have the Lancers allowed more than one goal, and with today's clean sheet, they record their second shutout in the past six games.
“The guys fought hard for 110 minutes,” said Jorden. “It is so hard to play here, and both teams had chances to win. Considering we were on the road, it's a decent result, and hopefully this will help us build some momentum into Saturday.”
The Lancers host Fresno Pacific Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
