SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? Jeanine Deno scored a team-high 25 points, including five 3-pointers in a 69-61 loss to No. 6 Point Loma Nazarene.
The Lancers (17-11, 9-9 GSAC) shot just 33.3 percent (23-69) from the field and were 9-of-26 from beyond the arc.
Nicole Davis was the only other Lancer in double figures with 12 points.
CBU led early at 4-2, but that was short-lived lead. The Sea Lions took control with a 9-2 run, but CBU answered to eventually get within one at 17-16. Both teams went scoreless for over four minutes before Point Loma broke the drought with a 12-0 run to take its biggest lead of the half at 29-16.
The Lancers closed the gap to six with a 7-0 run capped by a Kendra Morris trey and Davis got CBU within four, at 33-29, with a pair of free throws. The Sea Lions scored six straight to stretch their lead to 10, 39-29, with 54 seconds left in the half, but Deno drained a trey to make it 39-32 at the half.
Point Loma never led by more than nine the entire second half, but CBU never regained the lead from early in the first. Davis brought CBU as close at it been all half when she nailed a 3-pointer with 3:52 left to make it 59-58 before Colleen Planeta put Point Loma back up by three. Brenna Hahn sank a free throw to get within two at 61-59 but that was as close as CBU came.
The Lancers will close out the regular season at home, hosting Biola Saturday and Vanguard Monday.
