
ANOTHER NIGHT, ANOTHER BLOWOUT

LEWISTON, Idaho --- For the second time this season California Baptist University hit the 90-point mark and shot better than 50 percent from the field, defeating Oregon Tech 90-65 at the Twin Rivers Physical Therapy Classic.
The Lancers posted the highest score of the day playing in the opening game of the tournament hosted by Lewis and Clark State. CBU is now averaging 82.3 points per game.
“I thought we played very unselfish tonight, sharing the ball and making the extra pass,” said Head Coach John Marcum. “We jumped on them early and never looked back.”
CBU jumped out to 15-point first half lead and led by as much as 29 in the game, en route to the 25-point victory.
“It was key that we took care of the basketball,” said Marcum. “I especially liked to see the 26 assists and just 18 turnovers.”
Oregon Tech had almost the exact opposite assist to turnover ratio, recording 15 assists while giving the ball away 25 times.
V.V. Vasciunaite led CBU in scoring for the second straight game, third time this season, putting up 22 points and recording seven assists. She also had six rebounds and four steals.
Renetha Burton had 19 points in just 22 minutes of play, getting into foul trouble early.
“Chynna Burwell had her best game of the season filling in for Renetha tonight,” said Marcum. “We were able to get very good production out of our role players in this game.”
Burwell had 13 points and led the team with eight rebounds in 19 minutes. All three totals are season-highs for the senior from Richmond, Va.
The Owls were led by Brittany Cherry and Morgan Hofman, who scored 16 and 15 points respectively. Oregon Tech shot just 34 percent from the field.
The Lancers continue their impressive start to the season, moving to 5-1 on the year, while the Owls fall to 3-3. In its five victories, CBU has defeated opponents by an average of 25.6 points per game.
CBU is back in action Saturday, facing the host Warriors at 4 p.m.
