ONE FOR THE WIN

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- All it takes is one, and seventh-ranked California Baptist University got its one early in the second half and then left the rest up to its stellar defense.
Osvaldo Bastida scored the game's only goal in the 59th minute, reigning Golden State Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Jeff Redinger nabbed seven saves to key CBU to a 1-0 GSAC win over Biola Wednesday night.
The win is the Lancers' sixth straight tying a school record
for the longest winning streak set back in 2001 as they improve to 8-1 overall,
2-0 GSAC (6 points).
“The guys did a good job staying level after getting Saturday's win,” said CBU Head Coach Ryan Jorden. “To go on the road against anyone in this conference is tough. We had good moments where we were calm and professional, and we took our chances when we had them. But even in all that, we still have room to grow and get better.”
Biola, which played in the quarterfinals of last year's NAIA Tournament, falls to 3-5-1, 1-1 (3 points).
Bastida continued to show why he has become one of the top strikers in the GSAC scoring for the fourth time in five games just shy of the 14-minute mark of the second half. He now has 14 of his 19 points in the past six games.
Tyler Aagard began the build up for the goal when, from about 35 yards out, he began to probe through the Eagle defense towards the area. He then sent a ball towards the corner flag where Marc Hope, who scored his first collegiate goal in Saturday's
2-1 win over Westmont, set up Bastida's second straight game-winner with a nice
flick right in front of the goal. Bastida ran behind Hope's flick and nicked it into the net.
The Lancers fired four more shots in the next
four minutes looking to pad the lead, but Aaron Fenlason saved two of them, and
the other two missed the frame altogether.
The Eagles out-shot the Lancers, 13-10, and nearly equalized twice in a nine-minute span after Bastida's game-winner. Philip Frehe's header hit the cross bar in the 65th minute, and Dylan Wingrove's shot from distance sailed over a sprawling Redinger and banged off the bar in the 74th.
Redinger's seven saves are a season-high. It is the Lancers' fourth clean sheet of the year, and Redinger's second this year and 10th of his career, moving him within one of tying the program record.
The Lancers will host reigning GSAC Champion and current No. 23-ranked The Master's Saturday at Noon. The Mustangs (4-2-2, 1-1) lost to Fresno Pacific, 2-1, in overtime Wednesday.
