RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- California Baptist University dropped its third-straight match Friday, losing at home to Hawaii-Hilo
The Lancers fell in straight-sets to the second-place Vulcans, losing 25-20, 25-22, 25-20.
CBU dropped the first two sets, hitting progressively worse in each game. The Lancers committed five errors in the first set and nine in the second.
Playing with a brand new rotation, CBU kept each of the opening two games even until late, but could not find that final push to get over the top in either one. UHH used a 7-1 run to close out game one and finished game two with four-straight points.
It was more of the same in the third as the Lancers pulled even late at 19-19. Two Vulcan kills and two Lancer errors later, though, and UHH pulled ahead 23-19 en route to the final game win.
CBU had its best hitting performance of the match in the third, getting 14 kills to five errors (.220), but the Vulcans scorched the net with a .371 hitting percentage. UHH hit .274 in the match to .177 by the Lancers.
Bree Rauschenbach was CBU's most effective hitter for the second-straight match, getting nine kills on a .300 hitting percentage. Ingrid Carmona posted 13 kills for CBU, but hit just .075. Getting the start at libero, Andrea Csaszi led all players with 17 digs.
UHH's Hilary Hurley notched a match high 26 kills and hit .358. She and Carmona were the only two players in the match with more than 10 kills. Nicole Conley led the Vulcans with 33 assists.
CBU falls to 7-6 overall, 1-2 PacWest, while UHH improves to 11-2, 7-2. It is the Lancers first three-match losing streak since 2003.
The two teams will be back in action Saturday night in the Van Dyne Gym at 7 p.m.
