The Lancers, needing every point if the hope to repeat as conference champions is to continue, scored a pair of second half goals and out-shot Dominican 18-7 in a 3-0 route of the Penguins Saturday.
The win is the Lancers' third in a row and eighth in their past 10 games as they improve to 10-3-1 overall, 8-2-0 (24 points) PacWest, keeping pace with conference-leading Grand Canyon (9-1, 27 points) and Notre Dame de Namur (8-2-1, 25 points).
The Penguins drop to 7-7, 3-7 (9 points), taking their sixth straight loss.
"The guys' appetitie to try to be good on the road has been great all year," said Head Coach Ryan Jorden. "They are determined to get better, and they got better today."
CBU led 1-0 at halftime when it scored a pair of goals in a five-minute span to put the game away. Reigning PacWest Freshman of the Year Michael Salazar continued heating up with a goal in the third straight game, finishing an assist from Chris Gaitan in the 71st minute.
Then, in the 76th minute, Braedan Pilcher scored his first career goal on an unassisted strike to ice it.
"Mike is starting to find good form and playing like he's capable of playing," said Jorden. "It's good to continue to move forward and feel like the rhythm and work rate of the team is getting better each game."
Cole Schmit got things started with his fourth goal of the season off a Jonathan Fausto assist in the 19th minute, and the Lancers carried that lead into the intermission. They nearly made it 2-0 just six minutes out of halftime, but Alex Anderson's shot banged off the post.
Joey Pacheco, the program's career record holder for shutouts, picked up his second straight and fifth of the season, making just one save. It is the Lancers' PacWest-leading seventh clean sheet in 14 games.
