RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- Just days before the California Baptist University softball team takes the field for its first game, two Lancers were named to the 2014 Preseason All-PacWest Softball Team, as announced Thursday.
Savannah Miller and Rachel Meyer showed they had made an impression on coaches from their performances from last year, picking up the honors voted on by conference coaches.
Last year, Miller led the Lancers with a .423 batting average, connecting for 60 hits in 142 appearances at the plate. She registered 16 doubles, two triples and three home runs to account for a team-best 36 RBIs. The junior catcher also went 5-for-5 in stolen bases attempts.
Meyer also had a presence at the plate, ending the season with a .302 batting average. Of her 42 hits, six rounded her to second and 13 were knocked over the fence to lead the team in homers, adding to her tally of 32 RBIs.
The Lancers open the 2014 season at home on Saturday against Saint Martin's. The two teams square off in a non-conference doubleheader, slated for a 12 p.m. start time.
