RIVERSIDE --- One week before the start of the 2026 softball season, the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) announced its selections for the Preseason All-WAC Team. Representing CBU is a trio of Lancers, as CBU also comes into the season second in the preseason coaches' poll.
The WAC announcement marks back-to-back seasons where CBU placed second in the coaches' poll and put three on the Preseason All-WAC Team.
CBU earned 27 votes in the coaches' poll, paired with one first place vote. The Lancers are one of four teams to earn a first-place vote, joined by Tarleton State (4), UT Arlington (1), and Utah Valley (1). Tarleton State placed first in the poll with 32 points.
Representing CBU on the Preseason All-WAC Team is Ashlee Annett, Miranda De Nava, and Matti Severns.
Annett is entering her senior season in 2026 and was an All-WAC Second Team honoree in 2025. The infielder batted .349 last season, a career best, adding 30 RBI, five home runs, and eight doubles. Annett finished the season with a team leading 65 hits and posted a .392 on base percentage in 58 games.
De Nava is a sophomore entering her first season with the Lancers after spending her freshman campaign in Berkeley with Cal. De Nava led the Bears in wins (13), strikeouts (70), ERA (3.25), opposing batting average (3.25), and innings pitched (103.1). As a freshman, the Riverside native made 28 appearances in the circle, finishing with a record of 13-6 with one save.
Severns is a junior entering her third season with the Lancers. In 55 games last season, Severns led the Lancers with a .360 batting average and .461 on base percentage. She was second on the team with 29 runs scored and third with 54 hits. Severns was a First-Team All-WAC selection in 2025 and comes into her junior year with a career .349 average, the best in CBU history.
CBU both begins and wraps up an era of the program in 2026, as the season marks year one under head coach Brandon Telesco, and signals the end of the Lancers' time in the WAC. CBU will join the Big West Conference for the 2027 season.
The Lancers will begin their season in one week at the UNLV Leadoff Classic in Las Vegas. CBU will play the Rebels of UNLV on Thursday, February 5, at 6 p.m. to signal the start of the new season. The Lancers will also play Purdue and UIC across their five games in the Silver State.
CBU will be home in Riverside on February 12 to start the CBU Classic. LMU will be in town for the Lancers' home opener, scheduled for 6 p.m. Tickets for all CBU home games are on sale HERE.
