Leitich Top-10 at Vanguard

VANGUARD INVITATIONAL RESULTS
COSTA MESA, Calif. – With most of its top-eight runners resting from last week's Greater Louisville Classic, California Baptist University used the 2014 Vanguard Invitational Saturday as a chance to test its depth Saturday.
The 5,000-meter Invitational was held at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa, and the,Lancers had an impressive fifth-place finish for a total of 138 points while running alongside 17 other teams.
"We are very excited about the performances today and feel that this is a great indication of the progression of our team this season," CBU Coach Ben Gall said.
Sophomore Millie Leitich cracked the top-10, finishing in ninth,place and clocking in at the finish line with a time of 18 minutes, 13.99 seconds.
"I liked the course and I felt good running through the race," said Leitich. "I wanted to be aggressive, mentally tough. I wanted to make my coaches proud because they believed I would do great this weekend."
Following close behind Leitich were teammates, Ester Mueller (18:46.11), Natalie Ball (18:58.01), Jennifer Buettner (19:15.13) and Morgan Spurlock (20:04.16).
"Millie Leitich made a huge step forward,and is going to be a major impact on our team once we hit the postseason," said Gall. "Jennifer Buettner and Morgan Spurlock also ran great races that really helped round out our team scoring strongly."
The Lancers return to action next Saturday at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational in Santa Clara, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
