More Academic Accolades Swimming In

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Last week the California Baptist University women's swim and dive team was named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team. This week, nine Lancers picked up individual recognition, as announced Monday.
Mary Hanson, Yosita Hapsari, Breanne Schlenger and Josh Hanson all earned CSCAA Scholar All-America first team recognition after boasting a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher while qualifying and competing in the NCAA Division II Championships.
At the championships, Mary Hanson became the first Lancer to win an NCAA Division II individual championship and set a new division record, while helping the women finish ninth overall. Hapsari teamed up with the 100-yard back champion in three relays—the 200, 400 and 800 medley relays—to grab two top-three finishes.
Freshman Schlenger set a new record on both the 1- and 3-meter platforms during the regular season, including a 444.6 score on the 1-meter board at Redlands to automatically qualify for the championships.
On the men's side, Josh Hanson competed in the 200-yard butterfly—where he earned All-American status with an eighth-place finish—the 400 individual medley (IM) and the 200 IM.
Alyson Barnes, Anna Megli, Chaffin Blake, Mitchell Spezzaferri and Derek Wedel received Honorable Mention accolades. The honors are presented to college and university swimmers and divers who achieved a 3.5 GPA or higher, along with a "B" time standard in their respective events, but did not qualify or compete in the championships.
