WALNUT, Calif. -- With every effort put toward inching closer to making NCAA Division II provisional times, California Baptist University started its first of three events this week at the Mt. SAC Relays Thursday. The Bryan Clay Invitational and Beach Invitation are on the Lancers schedule the rest of the weekend, as well.
While competing with the best athletes at Mt. SAC Thursday, Valentin Roberts competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase event and finished in 10th place in nine minutes and .04 seconds, right behind Washington State University's runner.
"It was a good experience to run in such a competitive and physical field," head coach Ben Gall said. "This race will help him prepare for what nationals will be like."
On the women's side, Caroline Barkechir got good experience in the 10K. She finished in 22nd place, clocking in at 36:24.20.
"This was her first really big track race and she needed to experience this environment," Gall said. "She is very young and hopefully this will help motivate her to be prepared for the national championships, too."
The Lancers are back in action this weekend, as the team separates and competes in three different events including the Mt. SAC Relays at Mt. San Antonio College on April 16-17, the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific on April 17 and the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State on April 17-18.
