RIVERSIDE, Calif. — The California Baptist University women's swimming and diving team had nine athletes named to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic teams, with Mary Hanson getting the top honor for the second year in a row.
Hanson, an electrical/computer engineering and math major, was named the RMAC Swimming and Diving Academic Athlete of the Year after showing she's not only a competitor in the waters, but in the classroom as well. She joins three other Lancers on the first team: Alena Rumiantceva (international studies), Breanne Schlenger (psychology/sociology) and Lauren Skinner (psychology/criminal justice). Five other members of the squad picked up honor roll distinctions: Alyson Barnes (English), Yosita Hapsari (kinesiology), Kayla Kovats (nursing), Amanda Snodgrass (aviation) and Ashley Weedman (communication disorders).
To qualify for Academic All-RMAC, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.30 or better, be a starter or reserve, and have completed two consecutive semesters or three quarters at their current institution. The student-athlete's cumulative GPA is what they had earned prior to swimming & diving season beginning. RMAC Sports Information Directors at schools which sponsor the sport of men's or women's swimming & diving selected the first team.
CBU won its second consecutive RMAC title this year and went on to finish eighth at the NCAA Division II championship meet, ending just its second year as a fully-fledged Division II member on a high note.
