RIVERSIDE, Calif. --Â Coming off a career night, California Baptist University libero Tori Ortman was honored by being named the PacWest Defender of the Week Monday afternoon.Â
Ortman is the second Lancer to earn the Defender of the Week award in the PacWest, almost exactly two years after Malika O'Brien picked up the first one on Sept. 23, 2013. The junior libero logged 46 digs in two matches last week, which was good for 5.11 set, against conference rivals Dixie State and Azusa Pacific. It is the second weekly PacWest honor for CBU after Lauren Hackett was named Player of the Week last Monday.

In CBU's home opener on Friday against the Red Storm, Ortman came close to breaking her personal record for digs in a match (22) when she posted 20 in five sets. The next day, she played an even bigger role, digging 26 balls in four sets on the road versus the Cougars.

Ortman was promoted from defensive specialist to libero this season and has had a seamless transition. The junior has played a large part in holding the Lancers' opponents to a .129 hitting percentage (402 kills-235 errors-1,297 attempts) this year. She has racked up 157 digs (4.24 a set), with double-digit digs in all but one match this year, 15 or more in six matches and 20 or more in three outings.

At her current pace, Ortman will soon break into the Lancers' career top-10 per-set diggers. She currently ranks 11th with 2.55 a set, while 2000 graduate Allison Ardis' 2.56 digs a set ranks 10th.

CBU is back in action in the Van Dyne Gym Friday and Saturday, as it hosts Fresno Pacific and Point Loma on the respective days, with each match starting at 7 p.m.Â
