MALIBU, Calif. – If there was any question whether it was a one-week wonder, California Baptist University's true freshman Scott Tolman answered emphatically with a dominant performance for the second week in a row at the Malibu Invite on Saturday.
Tolman, a breaststroke specialist, won all three of his signature events at Pepperdine. The Lancers as a whole won two other events to put a cap on their second meet of the 2016-17 season.
In the 50, 100 and 200 breaststrokes, Tolman touched first each time in respective marks of 26.02 seconds, 56.26 and 2:04.16. Fellow first-year Lancer Adrien Deloffre impressed in those three races, as well, taking second in the 50 (27.43) and 200 (2:07.21) and fourth in the 100 (59.33).
Alexis Ohmar, the reigning RMAC Swimmer of the Week, notched CBU's other individual victory in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 1:41.66. The Lancers produced the third and fifth-place finishers in the event, as well, in Bernardo Valentim (1:44.00) and Christian Britton (1:44.24).
CBU produced its final win of the meet in the 200-medley relay (1:36.22), and showed its depth in the 100 butterfly, 100 free and 100 individual medley. Quiroga took runner-up in the 100 fly (50.95), while the Lancers had the fifth through seventh swimmers in Adrian Gutierrez (52.06), Quinn Birtles (52.09) and Chris Sands (52.92) all finishing a second within each other.
Ohmar was second in the 100 free (46.47), with Valentim in fourth less than a second later (47.31). Qurioga picked up silver in the 100 IM (54.44), while Ohmar snatched bronze (54.53) shortly thereafter. Quiroga and Ohmar added another fourth-place finish in the 50 fly (23.11) and 50 back (24.75), respectively.
