HONOLULU, Hawaii – California Baptist University fell to Chaminade in four tightly-contested sets on the road Friday night, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-23.
The Lancers were on the verge of forcing a fifth set but could not hold off the Swords on their home floor. CBU drops to 15-5, 10-2 in the PacWest with the loss and Chaminade improves to 12-10, 6-7.
Lauren Hackett led CBU's offense with 21 kills, four aces and nine digs. Tori Ortman compiled 20 digs in just the four sets, as well, for the Lancers. Setter Sydney Kralj finished with 41 assists, five digs and three kills, while Jenna Perry also put together 13 kills, five digs and two blocks.
CBU did a good job of grabbing momentum with a first-set win. The Lancers broke a 9-9 tie with a 5-1 run for a 14-10 lead, with Hackett scoring four of those points with kills. Chaminade rallied back within two, 16-14, but Perry helped CBU take back a five-point lead, 20-15, with an ace and kill. It was enough cushion to deliver the win for the Lancers.
There is a chance for CBU to end its two-match road trip through Honolulu with a win. The Lancers travel to St. Andrew's Priory Saturday at 9 p.m. PDT to take on Hawaii Pacific.
