RIVERSIDE, Calif. — In the final tune-up of the regular season, California Baptist University took third as a team, once again not racing its full lineup.
The No. 9-ranked Lancers had five runners complete the 5K CBU Invite at the Riverside Cross Country Course and finished with 72 team points.
Charlie Davidson led CBU's quintet, taking fourth overall out of 64 runners. She clocked in at 18 minutes, 45.88 seconds to earn herself a ticket to Hawaii for the PacWest Conference Championship meet.
"I thought today was good for the women we had running," said Coach Ben Gall. "I was really proud of them. I thought Charlie did a great job. She had a game plan and had some stuff to prove to us and to herself. I thought she went out and proved she deserves to be in the conference meet so we're happy for her. The rest of the girls finish the season strong."
Tori Dutchover wasn't far off Davidson, finishing the race in 19:23.35 for 11th overall. In her final cross country meet, senior Alysa Avila was the third-fastest Lancer and crossed the finish line in 20:09.50.
Patsy Hurley and Alexys Estrada rounded out the five runners for CBU, finishing in 21:16.02 and 22:17.00, respectively.
In two weeks, 10 Lancers head to Hilo, Hawaii, to defend their back-to-back conference crowns and hope to pick up their fourth PacWest title.
"I think we're really positive going into the conference meet," said Gall. "There were some things that had to play out today – like Charlie having to earn her spot onto the team – but they're all on the same page and excited for it. I think we're much more confident than we've been in the past. They really have their roles defined and they're excited to move forward."
