RESULTS
BILLINGS, Mont. — Good teams know how to get the result they need and No. 9-ranked California Baptist University did just that Saturday morning at the NCAA Division II West Region Championship.
The Lancers needed a top-six performance to punch their ticket to the D-II Championship Meet for the second year in a row and they accomplished that with 185 team points.
"The women had a tough day, but were still able to advance to the national meet," said Coach Ben Gall. "We will look over everything and talk to them more to make the proper adjustments over the next two weeks. The regional championships are essentially a semifinal and we survived to fight another day, so we are excited about that and will be prepared when we head to Florida."
Katie Deimling led the Lancers with a 19th-place finish, clocking in at 22 minutes, 00.51 seconds. Leanda du Bruyn followed with a time of 22:02.89 to take 22nd overall. The top-25 performance earned the duo their first All-West Region honors.
Fruzsi Ladanyi took 34th with a time of 22:22.90, while Anett Somogyi followed in 39th, crossing the finish line in 22:29.31. Claire Rainey rounded out the five scorers for the Lancers, finishing the 6K in 23:00.29.
CBU heads to the NCAA Division II Championship in two weeks and for the first time in program history, both men's and women's teams will compete in the field after the men took fifth at the regional to advance.
