INDIAN HILLS, Calif. – Slow and steady improvements took place in the final round of the primarily NCAA Division I Folino Invitational for California Baptist University.

CBU produced its finest round in the end, shooting 303 Tuesday as a team. The Lancers finished in ninth place with a 927 (318-306-303) over three rounds.

"I think we came out with a great attitude, had our sights set on going low and really came out of the gates smoking," Coach John Hackney said.

The Lancers jumped to as high as seventh on the team leaderboard Tuesday. They opened the first three holes at four-under par and were two-under through the first six before they hit the toughest stretch of the course -- holes four through seven.

"We got better every day, which is obviously your goal in your first tournament back," Hackney said. "We set this up, a Division I tournament, to dust the cobwebs off the game and get our competitive juices flowing. I think we accomplished all that, but are we satisfied? No. we had higher goals and expectations than shooting over par, we want to get it closer to even par but it's coming."

Chris Carew was the low scorer for CBU Tuesday by shooting a two-over-par 74. Christian Sanders came in directly behind Carew, with a 75. Carew finished in 30th with a 230 (79-77-74) in the tournament. Sanders took 41st with a 235 (82-78-75).

Kavan Eubank, Tai Kuida and Glenn Hakes all shot final rounds of 77. Eubank took 19th with a 226 (78-71-77), Kuida finished in 42nd with a 236 (79-80-77).

"Kavan was heading for a top-five finish until a few errant shots toward the end of his round held him back," Hackney said. "Tai, Christian and Glenn – I am proud of the comeback they made. All three of them played solid today for some really long stretches."

Next, the Lancers will head to Las Vegas to compete in the Desert Classic from Feb. 28-29.

"We have a great group of guys who I think are going to do some special things before it's over," Hackney said.
