RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Throughout Southern California at two different meets, California Baptist University's women's track team spread out solid performances Friday.
At Azusa Pacific University for the Bryan Clay Invitational, Alicia Williams kicked off the day with a battle in the 800-meter race. Separated by less than .05 seconds from the runner in front of her and the runner behind her, Williams finished with a time of two minutes, 16.82 seconds for a new personal best. The sophomore — who has a secured spot at the PacWest Championships in the 800- and 400-meter events — beat her previous best time by one full second and is just three seconds off an NCAA Division II provisional mark.
Despite battling an illness earlier this week, Veronica Hall ran the fastest she's ever ran in 1500-meter event. She clocked in at 4:26.15, beating her previous CBU record time by .21 seconds. Hall set the record last year at the NCAA Division II Championship Meet, where she took seventh overall. With the fastest time in the division this season so far, Hall will look to improve on last year's finish at the championships in May.
Pauline Boelle and Emeline Delanis also put in good showings at the 1500m, finishing in 4:35.56 and 4:37.04, respectively.
Earlier in the day, Alana Enabnit (39:14.40) ran at the Beach Invitational, hosted by Long Beach State, qualified for the PacWest Championships in the 10K event.
The Lancers finish up the Beach Invitational tomorrow morning. CBU then takes the next week off to prepare for the conference championship meet, back at APU's track April 28-29. The Lancers currently have 11 runners who have a guaranteed spot in the PacWest meet, with several others who have solid conditional times.
