LONG BEACH, Calif. — After a busy week and battling fatigue, California Baptist University's women's track team finished off the week at the Beach Invitational Saturday.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle led the charge for the Lancers in the 800-meter, finishing 21st overall with a time of two minutes, 10.32 seconds. The sophomore already has an NCAA Division II conditional mark in the event and her best time (2:08.41) is less than a second off an automatic mark.
Veronica Hall ran her first 800m of the year, running faster than this time last year by a second. She clocked in at 2:13.24, despite getting tripped up at the start of the second lap, to pick up a Division II provisional mark.
Charlie Davidson picked up a personal record with a time of 2:16.86, shaving three seconds off her previous best. Pauline Boelle wasn't far behind her teammate, finishing the race in 2:17.76.
Millie Leitich was just .08 from securing her spot at the PacWest Championship, crossing the finish line at 2:20.08. By taking the milliseconds off her season-best time going into the Beach Invitational, Leitich increased her chances of joining her teammates at the conference championship.
CBU takes a week off to gear up for the PacWest Championship Meet April 28-29. The Lancers have 11 runners with guaranteed spots in the championships, while others have a good standing heading into the meet, hosted by Azusa Pacific.
