GOODYEAR, Ariz. – California Baptist University exceeded expectations at the Mustang Intercollegiate by finishing tied for third in a tournament packed with nine other NCAA Division II ranked teams.
Marvi Monsalve led the Lancers, who shot 591 overall, to their impressive showing, as she tied for first in the field. Monsalve carded a 142 (70-72) over two rounds and sank 26 pars over 36 holes. The junior biology major notched two eagles in the tournament, guiding her team to a second-round score of 294 on Saturday, three strokes better than its 297 a day earlier.
Eighth-ranked Tarleton State won the tournament with a three-over 579. No. 17 Northeastern State took second by just one stroke (590). As a team, CBU carded the second-most pars in the tournament (109) and added 19 birdies. The Lancers shot the third-best score on par-five holes (4.80), as well. Next up for CBU is the PacWest Championship. It begins Monday, April 18th in Phoenix, Ariz.
Erica Wang impressed in the tournament, as well for CBU. She tied for 17th out of 120 golfers, with a 149 (76-73). Wang shot even par on all par-three holes in the tournament and managed 24 pars with four birdies.
Laura Scrivner and Natalie Park helped CBU shoot low on both days. Scrivner was a picture of consistency with a 150 (75-75), while Park was even keeled in both rounds, too, with a 153 (76-77).
Sharon Oh showed a ton of improvement from one day to the next for Lancers. From round one to two, the true freshman cut 12 strokes off her score for a 74 on Saturday.

"I thought we played very well today. I am so proud of the progress we are making. We duked it out with some of the country's best teams and put up as good a number as anyone this afternoon," Head Coach John Hackney stated.
