On Pace For Nationals

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Not all of California Baptist University's women's track team was racing at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, but the ones that did, took advantage of the opportunity.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle grabbed her second provisional NCAA Division II mark of the season in record fashion, crossing the finish line of the 800-meter race first in two minutes, 8.41 seconds – almost seven full seconds faster than her previous-best time. It is also just .40 seconds faster than teammate Veronica Hall's previous record (2:08.81) and the second-fastest time ran this year in all of Division II.
Pauline Boelle just missed the provisional mark in the 800m (2:13.33), finishing in 2:14.90 for 10th place. Boelle, who now has the seventh-fastest time on the all-time record list, will look to shave those milliseconds off in hopes of joining Cleyet-Merle at the DII championship meet.
Emeline Delanis picked up a personal record in the 1500-meter, clocking in at 4:36.56 for fourth place overall. She was just 2.56 seconds off grabbing a provisional mark (4:34.00), but the freshman bettered her previous time of 4:42.15 by almost six seconds. It moved her up to the fourth-fastest time in program history.
In a much quicker event, Alicia Williams finished ninth overall in the 400-meter. She crossed the finish line in 58.73 seconds, which automatically qualified the sophomore for the PacWest Conference Championship Meet in the event.
Also hoping to secure a spot in the conference championships was Alysa Avila. The junior ran her first 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:48.11 (10th place), which is the fourth-fastest time in the PacWest this year. It wasn't an automatic qualifier, but the 16 fastest runners in the event will compete at the conference championship, held April 28-29 at Azusa Pacific.
Next week, CBU has a full week of events against some tough fields of competition. The Lancers will compete at the Mt. SAC Relays (Thursday and Friday), Bryan Clay Invitational (Thursday and Friday) at Azusa Pacific, and the Beach Invitational (Saturday) at Long Beach State.
