RESULTS
FULLERTON, Calif. — No. 17-ranked California Baptist University was poised and ready to deliver, despite not racing a full squad. The Lancers grabbed their first-place team finish at the Biola Invitational, held at Ted Craig Regional Park Saturday, with three Lancers finishing in the top-10 overall.
"For a lot of these girls, it was their first race of the year, so it was good to see how competitive they were," said head coach Ben Gall. "They really executed what we wanted and it was only a partial squad of what we'll really run in the postseason."
CBU finished with 43 team points, beating out conference foe Point Loma, along with Cal State San Bernardino for the second time in a row.
"We really beat some good teams today," said Gall. "Point Loma is probably the second-best team in the PacWest. We gave them our all even with them being at full strength, so that's encouraging. I think we're definitely clicking strong and ready for the next thing."
Katie Deimling led the Lancers and finished fifth overall with a time of 17 minutes, 07.95 seconds.
"I think I did pretty well," said Deimling. "I didn't really know what to expect going into it, so I just went with it. The way we all worked together is something I hope that continues going forward."
Berenice Cleyet-Merle and Fruzsi Ladanyi took fifth and sixth, respectively, to help push the Lancers to victory. Cleyet-Merle clocked in at 17:11.57, while Ladanyi crossed the finish line in 17:15.49.
Kim Rabenstein grabbed a personal-best time of 17:35.41, while Charlie Davidson was right on her tail, coming in at 17:41.26 to round out the top-five runners.
The Lancers will be back in action next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Coyote Invitational in San Bernardino, with another early 9:00 a.m. start time.
