SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Once again, it didn't take a full team for California Baptist University to dominate on the race course.
The Lancer men won the Coyote Challenge, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino, with a team score of 60 points.
Dennis Messmer led the charge on the slow, hilly course and took second overall with a time of 26 minutes, 18.73 seconds. Jayden Emerson was right on his fellow sophomore's tail, taking third individually and crossing the finish line in 26:32.14.
Jonah Ross and David Aguilar were neck-and-neck for 14th and 15th, finishing the 8K in 26:57.15 and 26:58.22. Bismarck Kipkilach rounded out the top-five with a time of 27:29.73.
James Atwell finished in the top-30 with a time of 27:43.02 to take 29th overall. Anthony Avila completed the race in 28:32.02 to close out for the Lancers.
CBU only had three women race, and therefore didn't score as a team. Alysa Avila led the pack with a time of 20:23.78, while Patsy Hurley and Alexys Estrada clocked in at 21:16.97 and 21:58.09, respectively.
