RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Last year, California Baptist University made its fourth-straight NCAA postseason appearance and in less than two weeks, the Lancers tip off a new season.
CBU – which was picked to win the PacWest for the fourth year in a row – opens the year as the No. 14-ranked team in NCAA Division II, according to the National Association of Basketball Coaches preseason poll that was released Tuesday. The Basketball Times D-II Preseason Top-20 listed the Lancers as the No. 9 team and named Kalidou Diouf as a Preseason All-American.
Diouf, who was named the PacWest Preseason Player of the Year, brings a presence in the post for CBU, finishing last year with the seventh-best shooting percentage in all of D-II at .638. He also led the team with 37 blocks, averaging just about 25 minutes per game. Diouf averaged 15.8 points and 6.9 rebounds per game last year and will look to bring that leadership to the court this year.
The Lancers open season next weekend, hosting the Lancer Tip-Off Challenge. CBU first takes on Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the brand new CBU Events Center. The Lancers then tip off against Cal State L.A. on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
