RIVERSIDE, Calif. — After winning the PacWest Conference Championship for the fourth-straight year, No. 1-ranked California Baptist University picked up some postseason honors, headlined by Emeline Delanis and head coach Ben Gall.
Gall was named the PacWest Coach of the Year, while Delanis was named the PacWest Runner of the Year.
Delanis led the Lancers to their fifth PacWest title and won the individual crown with a time of 21 minutes, 11.3 seconds, putting together her best time of her career. The junior made a name for herself early on in the season, taking first place at the 4K Lancer Invitational in 14:20.9, followed by a second-place finish (21:16.6) at the 6K San Francisco Invitational. She has yet to finish outside of the top-three of an event, placing third at the 6K Lewis Conference Crossover in 21:36.2, where CBU defeated then top-ranked Grand Valley State.
Last year's PacWest champion Anett Somogyi wasn't far behind Delanis in the conference championship, crossing the finish line in 21:28.8 for second place. She was followed by Kate Robinson and Fruzsi Ladanyi, as the duo came in one after another with Robinson posting a time of 21:50.8 for fifth place, while Ladanyi clocked in at 21:50.9. It resulted in All-PacWest first-team honors for the top-four Lancers.
Katie Deimling also grabbed All-PacWest recognition, picking up second-team honors with her eighth-place finish in 21:54.0. She was joined by Leanda du Bruyn (10th), Caroline Barkechir (12th) and Berenice Cleyet-Merle (14th) on the All-PacWest second team.
Kim Rabenstein secured with the final spot for the Lancers, taking 21st overall, for All-PacWest third-team honors.
CBU ranks first in the region and owns the top-spot in the division as it heads to the NCAA West Regional race in Monmouth, Ore. on Nov. 4. The Lancers will be looking to secure a top-three team finish, as they would then qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship on Nov. 18. There are also eight at-large bids across all of the division that will be named heading into the final race of the year.
