RESULTS
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – No records were safe at the Lancer Aquatics Center on day two of the Lancer Swim Dive Invitational on Saturday. California Baptist University set seven new pool records at its home en route to a dominant victory, with 1,606.5 points.
Brandon Schuster set three new individual Lancer Aquatics Center records, including two in individual events. The sophomore won the 200-yard freestyle in one minute, 40.42 seconds, which was just under the 1:40.52 record set by Jerome Heidrich in the Bakersfield dual on Nov. 4th.
Scott Tolman also broke the 400 individual medley record, with a 3:56.63, but unfortunately Schuster was racing alongside side him and improved on the previous pool best of 3:58.99 by more than four seconds with a victorious 3:54.91.
Both the 200-medley and 800-free relays featured first, second and fourth-place swims from the Lancers, with new pool records being set in the process.
Tolman, Josh Walters, Jacob Leahy and Justin Quiroga won the 200-medley relay in 1:30.75, which bested the previous record (1:31.82) by more than a second. Leahy, Schuster, Alexis Ohmar and Adrien Deloffre decimated the previous 800-free record (7:03.34) with a 6:53.23. The 400-free relay team of Walters, Deloffre, Valentim and Ohmar was also record setting with a victorious time of 3:03.59 to best the previous pool record of 3:06.16.
Robert Griffith and Colton Babcock both broke the 1650 free record (17:16.17), with Griffith winning it in 16:01.52 and Babcock coming in second (16:05.56). Josh Fluetsch and Tanner Shore took third (16:25.53) and fifth (16:42.53), respectively, in the race.
Tolman took back the 200 breast pool record for CBU (1:59.89), winning it in 1:56.87. Sean Foster (2:14.19) also took third in the event. Quiroga also came in second in the 200 fly (1:51.43).
CBU swept first through sixth in the 400 IM, with Quiroga (4:00.04), Foster (4:11.13), Matt Amano (4:13.89) and Sakeri Holter (4:17.69) taking third through sixth. The Lancers also went first through fifth in the 200 free, with Ohmar (1:40.63), Deloffre (1:40.96), Bernardo Valentim (1:44.43), Payton Thomas (1:45.03) going second through fifth and Josh Fluetsch taking seventh (1:46.24).
Ohmar broke the pool record in the 100 free (45.84), but just came up short in second place, while Walters (46.12), Deloffre (46.19) and Valentim (46.65) wound up in third through fifth.
Leahy (52.89), Quiroga (53.36) and Holter (55.78) also took first through third in the 100 IM. Matt Amano (1:55.17) and Leahy (1:59.37) finished second and fourth in the 200 back, respectively, as well.
The Lancers secured four top-eight finishes in the 100 butterfly, with Walters coming in second (49.75), Josh Freeman taking fourth (52.27), Riley Forristel sixth (52.51) and Quinn Birtles (53.75) rounding out the top eight.
Zach Parry took second on both boards on Saturday, with 455.70 points on the 1-meter and 502.65 at 3-meter.
"Zach had an impressive day with two runner-up finishes," Dive Coach Jeff Couto said. "If you follow the success of the top-three male athletes at this meet, I anticipate them all placing top-eight at D-II Nationals.
"I want to give Colorado Mesa a special thanks for making it all the way out to compete this weekend."
