Oaks Wins Dodgers Debut

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Former California Baptist University ace pitcher Trevor Oaks made his Spring Training debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday in a game with the Milwaukee Brewers. The 2014 PacWest Pitcher of the Year earned the victory after pitching both the sixth and seventh innings in the Dodgers' 10-8 victory.
It was a strong debut for Oaks, who pitched at CBU in 2014 before being drafted by the Dodgers in seventh round at 219 overall later that year. In three seasons, Oaks has separated himself, improved his stock and made himself a valuable Major League Baseball prospect, ranking 28th in Los Angeles' farm system in 2016.
Sunday was a new test for Oaks, as he was called out of the bullpen in the bottom of the sixth inning to replace Ross Stripling, with the Dodgers even with the Milwaukee Brewers, 7-7. Overall, Oaks gave up three hits, one walk, an unearned run and struck out three over those two innings.
Oaks struck out his first batter, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, a former Azusa Pacific standout, on three pitches. After giving up consecutive singles (one of which was compounded by an error in right field), the right-hander got out of the jam with a 1-6-3 double-play ground ball to end the inning.
In the seventh inning, Oaks overcame a leadoff walk and a double with two strikeouts and a popup to third base. The Dodgers took a 10-8 lead in the in the top of the eighth inning on home runs from Cody Bellinger and Alex Verdugo, and never looked back to give Oaks the win in his Spring League Training debut.
