CBU Falls to the Matedors During Midweek Feud

RIVERSIDE--- Tuesday night lights were in full effect for the California Baptist baseball program as it welcomed CSUN for the first mid-week game at Totman Stadium this season. An offensive explosion in the second inning for the Lancers carried them through the sixth, but the Matedors chipped away at their lead and ultimately secured the win thanks to their own offensive onslaught in the seventh. The 7-5 loss drops CBU to 7-2 on the season and marks its first home loss this year.
After a first-inning solo home run for CSUN, Gary Adcock's team capitalized on a few mistakes from the visiting squad for their first three runs before Bryce McFeely snagged an RBI with a well-placed single for the 4-1 lead. A sacrifice fly from Matt Chavez would tack on another run for CBU in the third as the Matedors sprinkled on runs through the slow-moving game. CSUN found its groove in the top of the seventh inning and secured a trio of runs, thanks to small-ball singles, to take a two-run lead after CBU's relief pitching staff struggled to get off the field.
During the final two innings, the Lancers struggled to string together hits and any offensive momentum before dropping the game to the Matedors. Despite the loss, Connor Ross had quite the day at the plate and picked up three hits with two runs. From the mound, CBU's pitching staff struck out 12 Matedors and allowed just three walks.
The Lancers will finish out their week with their first road trip of the season in Northern California this weekend, as they head to the University of San Francisco for a four-game series.
