CBU Downs the Dons Again with Excellent Pitching from Peck and Urquidi

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--- It was another dominant showing for the California Baptist baseball team on Friday afternoon after Gary Adcock's squad took down the University of San Francisco 7-1. Excellent pitching was once again the name of the game as CBU moves to 9-2 on the season and is now 2-0 in the series versus the Dons.

Action took longer to come by during the second round of the four-game series between the Dons and Lancers than in the previous game. Both starting pitchers were fantastic, but Bryan Peck was especially so for CBU, striking out 10 over five innings while allowing just three hits. Nico Urquidi came in during the sixth inning and was solid as well, dishing 4 strikeouts and allowing three hits as well. The Friday outing marks the second game of the series in which the Lancers' pitching staff has struck out over 12 Dons.

CBU's offense broke through in the fourth inning after Bryce McFeely found his way home, and the fifth inning saw an RBI double from Cole Hansen and an RBI single from Chris Ramirez dribbled in two more runs. California Baptist kept the momentum going with four runs in the sixth, which was highlighted by the Lancers capitalizing on a few USF errors to take a 7-1 lead heading into the final three innings.

The Dons' reliever Wesley Harwell carried the home team through the final three innings after limiting CBU to just one hit and two walks. The Lancer reliever Urquidi also allowed just one hit during his four innings of relief. At the plate, Ramirez had a day after going 4-4 with two RBI. Hansen was also strong at the plate with two hits and two RBI.

The action continues tomorrow as California Baptist looks to take the series at 1 p.m. against the University of San Francisco.
