LOS ANGELES — California Baptist University split into different events for the first time this season and kept up its strong performances at the Occidental Distance Carnival Friday.
Duncan Perillat was the highlight of the night, shaving four full seconds off his personal best time in the 3,000m steeple chase. The senior took third overall with a time of nine minutes, 12.37 seconds. The time is the fifth fastest in program history and provisionally qualified Perillat for the NCAA Division II Championship Meet in May.
Mirco Zenzen took seventh in his heat in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.21, while James Atwell finished in 4:08.78.
Anthony Avila and Dennis Messmer each posted times under the two-minute mark in the 800m, with Avila just beating out his teammate in 1:57.70. Messmer crossed the finish line in 1:58.69.
William Ernst put himself into the all-time top-10 list in the 5,000m race with a time of 14:45.43 – which is good for 10th overall. Michael Lowrie wasn't far off Ernst's time, finishing in 14:57.30, while Jayden Emerson followed with a time of 15:04.21 and Ken Kipkorir posted a 15:19.32 mark.
In the longest race of the night, both Lancers qualified for the PacWest Championship meet, with Jeremiah Gotts leading the charge. The senior took eighth overall, finishing in 32:50.46. Elliot Choe followed in 14th place with a time of 33:33.73.
