LOS ANGELES — California Baptist University split into different events for the first time this season and saw another record broken at the Occidental Distance Carnival Friday.
One week after setting a new CBU record in the 3,000m event, Emeline Delanis posted another record-breaking performance in the 5,000m. The sophomore ran a solid race, finishing in under 17 minutes (16:59.29) to become the first Lancer to do so on the women's side. The time was also good for a provisionally qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II Championship Meet in May.
Alicia Williams got the meet going for the Lancers, taking third overall in the 800m with a time of 2:13.65.
Multiple Lancers competed in the 1500m, led by Berenice Cleyet-Merle, who already owns the CBU record in the event. The junior took third overall, clocking in at 4:27.86. Fruzsi Ladanyi wasn't far behind Cleyet-Merle, taking seventh with a time of 4:33.67. Both times were good for provisional qualifying marks. Charlie Davidson won her heat, crossing the finish line in 4:41.56.
Claire Rainey and Kate Robinson were neck-and-neck, posting personal best times of 17:26.30 and 17:26.97, respectively. Katie Deimling followed in 17:34.86, while Caroline Barkechir crossed the finish line in 17:44.84. Kim Rabenstein rounded out the CBU runners in the event with a time of 18:01.94.
In the longest race of the night, Anett Somogyi led the Lancers with a time of 36:20.27, also a provisional qualifying mark. Micaela Pulliam followed in 38:12.44, while Tori Dutchover posted a time of 39:35.17.
