RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Dixie State came out and took game one of a crucial PacWest series off California Baptist University Thursday night at Totman Stadium.
The 18th-ranked Trailblazers in NCAA Division II did most of their damage with a four-run fourth inning, which fed into a 6-1 win over the No. 17 Lancers. It forces a second-place tie in PacWest standings with both CBU and Dixie State even at 7-2 in conference and 16-7 and 18-5 overall, respectively.
After Dixie State took a 5-0 lead through four innings, CBU got on the board in the fourth. Luke Navigato started things out with a double down the left-field line and a Bryce Macy single moved him to third. A two-out error brought Navigato home to make it 5-1.
In addition to Navigato and Macy, Ryan Williams and Andrew Bash had base hits in the game, with Bash going for a double. For the third-straight time, Travis Booth made it through at least six innings on the mound and struck out five Thursday. Morgan Earman threw the final 2.2 innings, preserving CBU's bullpen, and allowed just one run.
The Lancers and Trailblazers play two games in Friday's nine-and-seven inning doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. The four-game series concludes with a noon game Saturday.
