RIVERSIDE, Calif. — California Baptist University will be represented on the United States National Team after Chelsea Curran accepted a position as an assistant coach for the 2002-and-under age group team.
Curran is in the middle of her fifth season as CBU's assistant coach, with the Lancers going 96-62 overall with her on staff. Her duties with the U.S. National 2002-and-under team will begin 10 days after the 2017 NCAA Championships, starting with a selection camp on May 24-28. The former All-American honoree at Cal State University Northridge will then coach the team in a tournament in Peru from June 25th to July 9th.
Over the past five years, Curran has coached in the Olympic Development Program (ODP). The Chino native was offered the position with the National Team less than two weeks after she was named the Top Coach of the ODP Cadet Team at the 2017 ODP National Championships on March 10th.
Since Curran joined CBU in 2012, the Lancers have garnered 10 of its 15 All-American awards. The former center helped develop the most dominant player in CBU history, two-meter Hannah Evans, a four-time All-American, two-time Division II Player of the Year and the program's all-time leading goal scorer.
