ANAHEIM, Calif. — Since 2013, California Baptist University has been the team to beat, just no one has been able to do so. The Lancers kept that trend up with their sixth-straight USA Collegiate Championship, the biggest college championship on the West Coast.
"CBU continues to remain undefeated and I could not be more proud," said Coach Tami Fleming. "These athletes are working so hard and their hard work is paying off. They were fearless out on the floor and they attacked the routine with poise and confidence."
After finishing in first in the prelims, the Lancers came out and hit a zero deduction routine in the finals to post a score of 92.62 points. It put CBU almost 20 points in front of second-place Menlo.
CBU also saw both its stunt groups place in the top-three. Taylor Contratto, Taylor Frasca, Dazmyn Dull and Evynn Richard teamed up to take first, while Raylene Sadorra, Morgan Willis, Alexis Humphrey and Breanna Krombs combined to make up the other CBU team that placed third. Division I Sacramento State's stunt group took second.
The Lancers have been undefeated since 2013 and look to carry momentum into the National Cheerleaders Association College National Championship next week in Daytona Beach, Fla. Local fans will get a chance to preview CBU's championship routines this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the Van Dyne Gym.
