LOS ANGELES – For the second week in a row, California Baptist University had all of its runner competing in the same event – the 1500m – at the Cal State L.A. Invitational Saturday.
On the women's side, Alicia Williams won her heat with a time of four minutes and 48 seconds. Micaela Pulliam was right behind Williams, clocking in in 4:54, which was good for a personal best for her. Morgan Spurlock also beat her previous fastest time, finishing the 1500m in 5:05.
Kim Rabenstein took second in her heat in 4:45. While Rabenstein and Williams may not have beaten their personal bests, today's times marked their fastest outputs in two years.
On the men's side, Mike Lowrie had the fastest time of the day for CBU, finishing the 1500m in 4:05, which was a personal best. Ken Kipkorir wasn't far behind, taking second in his heat with a time of 4:07. Jonah Ross crossed the finish line in 4:10 to take fourth in the heat. Jayden Emerson and Anthony Avila ran solid races, each posting times of 4:12.
"It was a good tuneup meet for a lot of these athletes as we prepare for the Occidental Distance Carnival," said Coach Ben Gall. "We will race just about everyone there, spread across all the events to start trying to qualify for NCAA's."
