RIVERSIDE, Calif. – California Baptist University received the second seed for the NCAA Division II Super West Regional hosted by Midwestern State at Wichita Falls Country Club in Wichita Falls, Texas Monday May 8th to Wednesday May 10th.
It marks the third year in as many opportunities the Lancers, who are ranked ninth in Division II, have qualified for the NCAA postseason. The top three teams and three individuals not with a team from each 12-team super regional after 54 holes will advance to the D-II Championships, which will be held at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio, May 17-20.
CBU has come close to advancing out of regionals the last three years and took a program-best fourth in 2015's regional round.
Dallas Baptist earned the top seed in the West Region, while Tarleton State, St. Mary's (Texas), St. Edward's, West Texas A&M and Midwestern State will also have home-state advantages in Texas, seeded third, fourth, sixth, seventh and ninth in the region, respectively.
Sonoma State grabbed the fifth spot in the West, while Academy of Art is the only other PacWest school to advance to the postseason at No. 8. Chico State and Cal State Monterey Bay joined Sonoma as the other California Collegiate Athletic Association teams at 10th and 11th, while Simon Fraser rounds out the 12-team regional.
First-year Coach Marc Machado has guided the Lancers to a historic season already. The team has won a program-record six events this season, including the PacWest Championship for the third year in a row. The Lancers have never finished outside of the top-four this season, with eight top-two and nine top-three finishes. The team is averaging a program-record 301.18 a round this season, with two rounds of par or better.
