RESULTS
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Two days after the highly-anticipated dual with Ohio State, California Baptist University returned to action Sunday for its first tournament of the season, the Road Runner Open at CSU Bakersfield.
Zach Schrader highlighted the day for the Lancers, winning five of six matches on four decisions and one pin to take third place in the heavyweight bracket.
Evan Bockman, who wrestled unattached, also took third place in the 174-pound weight class. Bockman advanced to the semifinals before his only loss of the day put him in the consolation bracket.
At 141, Zander Silva advanced to the third-place match and won four of his five matches (two major decisions, two decisions). The third-place match did not take place due to a double forfeit.
Two Lancers won fifth place in their respective weight-classes: Gabriel De Haro (157) and Bryce Buckley (165). De Haro advanced to the semifinals before losing to eventual champion Dom Mandarino of Stanford. Buckley picked up two victories via pin en route to his fifth-place finish.
In two weekends, CBU will travel to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Invitational.
