Gordon Wraps up Cliff Keen Invitational

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – California Baptist University wrapped up the Cliff Keen Invitational today with a 36^th place finish in the highly competitive 43-team tournament.

Daxton Gordon came just one win shy of guaranteeing a top-eight finish, falling to fifth-ranked Max Thomsen of Northern Iowa in a 14-6 major decision.

Nevertheless, it was one of the most successful runs at Cliff Keen for a Lancer, as only three have finished in the top eight at the Invitational. Nick Fiegener and Joe Fagiano took seventh place in the 184-pound and heavyweight brackets in 2016 and 2015. Zach Merrill was the Lancers' first placer at the tournament back in 2012 as a heavyweight.

It ended a challenging week for CBU, as there were a number of national powers in Las Vegas, with second-ranked Ohio State, No. 6 Missouri, 12th-ranked Nebraska, No. 18 Northern Iowa, fifth-ranked Michigan in attendance along with many more.

The Lancers return to tournament competition on Thursday, December 20^th for the Reno Tournament of Champions.
