EAGLE ROCK, Calif. — Despite steady rain all day, California Baptist University posted solid times at the Occidental Distance Carnival Saturday.
Berenice Cleyet-Merle – who was an All-American in the 800-meter event last year – took one step closer to a third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Championship meet. In her first 800m race of the year, Cleyet-Merle finished second in a provisional time of two minutes, 12.60 seconds.
Three other Lancers grabbed provisional marks, the first time so many Lancers have done so in just the second meet of the year.
Emeline Delanis, Leanda du Bruyn and Kate Robinson all picked up provisional times in the 5K race, taking third, 14th and 16th, respectively. Delanis, who last week set a new CBU record in the 3K, crossed the finish line in 16:39.61. du Bruyn clocked in at 17:08.90, while Robinson finished in 17:13.08.
Delanis (5K) and Robinson (10K) both made their debut appearances at the NCAA Division II Championships last year, with Delanis grabbing All-American honors.
While the provisional times don't secure a trip to the DII Championship Meet just yet, there is still plenty of time left for the Lancers to build on their times. CBU heads to the San Diego State Invitational next, on March 23, looking to keep getting better.
